David Choate

I have been fishing ever since I can remember, but it was 1987 when I took my first long range trip, a ten day trip on the Q105 with John Grabowski at the helm. That trip with Mr Charisma lit a fire than hasn't dimmed since. I have been very fortunate to fish with some of the best anglers, captains and crew, and have learned a lot about all aspects of long ranging.
My favorite fish in the world to catch is Giant Yellowfin Tuna, and Calico Bass is number two in my book.
I love to be out on the boat, see all there is to see and experience, make friends, teach and be taught, and help out the crew if they need it.
I had a great opportunity to fish with Seeker Black Steel rods on some very large Yellowfin Tuna recently, and had great success with them. I caught fish on the 6455XXXH, 6463XXH, and the 6463XXXH. They all performed very well on tuna close to two hundred pounds, and I'm looking forward to many more trips with my new Seeker rods.
Enough talk, let's go fishing :-)

Ed  Surek Night Time Breakwall Bass Fishing

I use an “Inshore” model BCBW60XF for break wall fishing (the calico in this picture was caught with it). Ed  Surek Night Time Breakwall Bass Fishing

Party Boats (1/2 and ¾ day) I use:

Inshore Models 706, 708, 709, 808 and the “React” series.  706H CR for throwing blams!

I guess you could say I’ve been fishing all of my life!  My earliest memory is one catching a bluegill in a river in Pennsylvania.  At 5 or 6 years old.   As a young boy I fished the Niagara River and Erie Barge Canal in North Tonawanda, New York.   I started salt water fishing in 1980, but got serious about the sport in 1986 (the same year as my divorce . . . there might be a connection!)  I retired from teaching in 2002 after 30 years in the Garden Grove Unified School District, where I taught black and white photography at Rancho Alamitos High School.

While living in Los Alamitos I developed a passion for fishing the Long Beach and Federal break walls at night.  I have won five tournaments dating back to the 1980’s.  The most recent being the “2002 All-Coast Wall Banger”.  It was during this time period that I was lucky enough to become friends with the eventually fishing partner of Fuss Dean.  Fuss is a fellow seeker pro-staffer who I believe in his prime was the best wall fisherman ever!

My other love in Southern California was bay fishing.  I have logged countless hours in Newport Bay and Long Beach Harbor (before 9/11).

I lived in San Diego for two years where I put in over 100 days each year in the bays.

In association with “Snappy Guides” I narrated two DVD’s.  One on San Diego Bay and the other on Mission Bay.  If you enjoy fishing plastic’s these DVD’s are a must, see!

Speaking of plastics my fishing has evolved to an ”All plastic, all the time!”  I believe I am sponsored by the best lures on the market, Captain Mike’s fish candy (Whams) and edge products, and hot sauce and flurries (swim baits).  To give you some idea of my success with plastic . . . 2003-2006, the last four C.A.S.T Tournaments sponsored by United Anglers (catch/release) I have been 1st or 2nd!  During this time I released over 3400 fish! . . . All caught on plastic!!

Last year I fulfilled my dream of moving to Florida.  I now live in New Smyrna Beach, home of Mosquito Lagoon!  The lagoon is one of the top redfish/trout destinations in the U.S.  By the way the Seeker React CR 706 6’ or 6-1/2’ is my rod of choice for the beach.  It also is perfect for top water lures in the Lagoon.  The inshore 705 (12# test) is my “Big Red” Rod!

I have a lot of choices when it comes to fishing here.  I can walk toe beach throwing plastic on ¼ or 3/8 heads (my biggest catch so far is a 10# Jack!)

I can wade in the Lagoon for trout and redfish (using plastic with 1/8 or 3/16 heads or weed less rigs).  When the opportunity comes up I fish in  flats boat with a friend.  (My boat will be ready in August)  Weather permitting I am fishing almost daily.

I also have continued to make trips to Keys (Islamorada) in search of bonefish and tarpon.  My biggest Bone was caught eight years ago and weighed in at 14lb-2oz . . . a real trophy!  I have caught 6 fish over 10 pounds and hope to get a lot more.

My biggest tarpon was an estimated 150lbs (I broke off after a half hour!)

Note:  A couple of guides are using the black steel 6470 and finding it the perfect rod for big “poon”!  Florida offers so many fishing opportunities.  (I didn’t even mention fresh water!)

Tight Lines,

Ed Surek

Russ Dean

Meet the Dean of Inshore Fishing. . .
Russ Dean, licensed guide, tackle consultant, lure designer and inshore fishing specialist, chooses Seeker Rods.
Russ Dean of Long Beach, California, has fished more miles of harbor and breakwater than some people have traveled to work.  A Seeker Pro Staffer, Dean halped us develop our new line of Seeker Inshore Series rods, to help you catch more fish.  He’s also the originator of the AA’s “Baby Puss” soft-plastic tails, which big bass can’t resist
Along the way, Dean’s met a lot of big bass up close and personal.  Like the bucket-mouthed 13-pound, 10-ouncer, year off the Long Beach federal breakwall.  And in his best year ever last year, he also caught calicos weighing 13-8, and 13-2.  All on a Seeker BCBW 598, one of three Seeker Inshore models built specifically for breakwater fishing.
We first introduced the concept of Southern California inshore rods in late 1990, and relied on Dean’s fishing savvy to help build 14 outstanding rods in the Inshore Series:  three new high-modulus graphite conventional casting rods, three trigger-grip casting rods, two spinning models, three breakwater specials and a pair of light-tackle specialty models outfitted with the latest, light-frame AFTCO roller guides.  All except the all-graphite conventional casting rods are of space-age graphite/S-Glass construction, with new firm, handsome, lightweight cork grips added for 1996.
You can see all the new and improved Seeker Inshore Series rods, as well as other models, at our booth exhibit at the upcoming Fred Hall Fishing Tackle and Boat Shows.  Stop by and get an education about these exciting, high-tech rids.  Right from The Dean.
